ACCA Internships in the UAE

What an internship counts for in the ACCA route, which MoHRE permit an intern actually needs, and why no internship stipend figure is published here.

acca internship uae

An internship matters in the ACCA route only if the time is signed off against the Practical Experience Requirement: 36 months of relevant supervised experience and nine performance objectives, approved by a qualified supervisor. It also needs a work permit. MoHRE's published permit list contains no general internship permit for an expatriate graduate, so an internship here is ordinarily employment under an ordinary permit.

#What an internship is actually for in this route

Passing thirteen exams makes you an affiliate. It does not make you a member. ACCA's Practical Experience Requirement asks for thirty-six months of relevant experience, recorded against nine performance objectives and signed off by a practical experience supervisor. Until that is complete, the ethics module is done and the exams are passed, membership does not follow.

That is the whole reason an internship is worth taking seriously here rather than treating it as a summer filler. Time in a finance role can count towards the thirty-six months — but only if it is relevant, only if it is supervised by someone qualified to sign it off, and only if it is actually recorded. An unrecorded internship in a business with no qualified supervisor is experience you cannot spend.

So the question to ask before accepting an unpaid or low-paid internship is not what it pays. It is who will sign your performance objectives, what they are qualified as, and whether the work will touch the objectives you still need. If nobody in the business can answer that, the placement may still be useful for your CV, but it is not progress towards membership and should not be priced as if it were.

#The permit question nobody answers, and the answer

This is the part of the subject that most content in this market skips, and it is the part with legal consequences. Article 6 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 makes it unlawful to work in the UAE without a work permit, and the prohibition binds the employer as well as the worker. An internship is work. "It's only an internship" is not a category the law recognises.

MoHRE issues thirteen permit types, listed on the Government Portal and read on 21 August 2026. Read that list carefully, because the two that sound like an internship are not one. The national trainee work permit is issued to establishments that wish to train a UAE citizen, and is valid for twelve months — it is not available for an expatriate graduate. The student training and employment permit is for employing a fifteen-year-old student under specific terms, valid three months — it is a schools provision, not a graduate one.

What that means in practice is that an ACCA internship for an expatriate in the UAE ordinarily runs on an ordinary permit rather than a special one. If you are already resident on a family sponsorship, the relevant type is the work permit for a resident on family sponsorship. If the placement is short and task-based, the temporary or mission permit may fit. If you are already employed elsewhere and the placement is part-time, that is the part-time work permit. Which one applies is the employer's decision to make with MoHRE, and it is a fair question to ask before you start.

#Internship pay: what this page refuses to publish

One of the three searches this page owns asks what an ACCA internship pays in the UAE. No figure is published here, and the reason is the same one that governs every pay question on this site.

No salary survey that could be opened publishes an internship or trainee band. Surveys report by role and seniority, and their accounting rows start at the experienced-accountant level. The gated guides were checked on 17 August 2026 and are cited below as evidence of the gate, not as a source of figures: Cooper Fitch is behind a lead-capture form demanding a company email, Michael Page is behind full account registration, and Bayt returned HTTP 403.

Two related figures exist and are routinely misapplied to this question. The UAE Labour Law stipulates no minimum wage — Article 27 leaves one to a Cabinet resolution, and none is currently set. And the AED 4,000 monthly figure that circulates online is a condition inside MoHRE's skilled-work classification for permit purposes, not a floor an intern is entitled to and not a benchmark for trainee pay.

What you can do instead is compare written offers for the same title in the same emirate from named employers, and weigh the supervision on offer at least as heavily as the stipend. Thirty-six months of signed-off experience is worth considerably more than a few hundred dirhams a month, and it is the part that is hard to buy later.

If the placement is paid, the wage rules still apply

A paid intern on a MoHRE permit is a worker. The wage falls due on the first day of each Gregorian month under the Wage Protection System rules sourced to Ministerial Resolution No. 340 of 2026, wages are paid in dirhams unless another currency is agreed in the contract under Article 22(3) of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, and all deductions combined may not exceed 50 per cent of the wage under Article 25(2). An arrangement that pays cash outside a contract is not an internship, it is unpermitted work.

#The one published, checkable signal when choosing a placement

This site names no employer and recommends none. There is, however, one signal ACCA publishes that you can check yourself before accepting a placement: the Approved Employer programme. ACCA maintains a directory of approved employers, and approval is granted against ACCA's own standards for staff training and development.

It matters for a specific and practical reason. Approved Employer status can simplify how your practical experience is verified, which is exactly the friction point that leaves affiliates stuck. Check the directory rather than the claim — a badge on a careers page is a graphic file, and approval lapses.

The other check is the supervisor. ACCA sets out who may act as a practical experience supervisor and what they must confirm. Ask for the person's name and qualification before you start, not after you have banked six months you cannot get signed off.

No count of open internships is published here, and no employer names appear. This site runs no recruitment desk and holds no vacancy data.

#What an internship does not do for you in the UAE

Three limits are worth stating plainly, because internship marketing in this market blurs all three.

It does not put you on a register. Signing a statutory audit report requires registration in the Ministry of Economy and Tourism's practising auditors register, and Cabinet Resolution No. 48 of 2022 sets the experience condition at five years post-qualification, of which one to three must be obtained inside the UAE for non-nationals. Internship time is not post-qualification time.

It does not make you a tax agent. Representing another taxpayer before the Federal Tax Authority requires listing on its register plus a licence from the competent local authority under Article 12(2) of Federal Decree-Law No. 28 of 2022, and the qualifying routes in Article 12(1)(c) of Cabinet Decision No. 74 of 2023 all require at least three years of experience obtained in the last five, alongside the education condition.

It does not entitle you to a title. Federal Decree-Law No. 41 of 2023 makes "Chartered Accountant" a protected designation: Article 8(2) states the title may not be used without a professional licence from the Ministry. That applies to an intern's CV and profile as much as anyone's.

The ACCA references on this page were read on 21 August 2026 and the UAE instruments on 17 and 21 August 2026. Permit rules and wage rules change by ministerial resolution more often than laws do; confirm the current position with MoHRE before you sign anything.

FAQ Answers to the questions people actually ask

Frequently asked questions

What counts as an ACCA internship in the UAE?

Only experience that can be signed off. ACCA requires thirty-six months of relevant supervised experience recorded against nine performance objectives before an affiliate becomes a member. An internship counts if the work is relevant, a qualified practical experience supervisor signs it off, and you record it. A placement with no qualified supervisor may help your CV but does not move you towards membership.

Do I need a work permit for an internship in the UAE?

Yes. Article 6 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 makes working without a permit unlawful for the worker and the employer alike, and an internship is work. MoHRE's published list of thirteen permit types contains no general internship permit for an expatriate graduate: the national trainee permit is for UAE citizens and the student training permit is for fifteen-year-old students.

What does an ACCA internship pay in the UAE?

No figure is published here. No salary survey that could be opened publishes an internship or trainee band, because surveys report by role and seniority and their accounting rows begin at experienced level. The UAE Labour Law stipulates no minimum wage, and the AED 4,000 figure quoted online is a MoHRE skilled-work classification condition rather than a floor for trainee pay.

How do I find an ACCA internship in the UAE?

This site publishes no vacancies and names no employers. The one checkable signal ACCA publishes is its Approved Employer directory, since approval is granted against ACCA's standards for staff training and development and can simplify how practical experience is verified. Check the directory itself rather than a badge on a careers page, and ask who will supervise your performance objectives.

Does an internship count towards becoming a registered auditor in the UAE?

No. Registration in the Ministry of Economy and Tourism practising auditors register requires five years of post-qualification experience under Cabinet Resolution No. 48 of 2022, of which one to three years must be obtained inside the UAE for non-nationals. Internship time is not post-qualification time, and holding ACCA alone confers no audit signing rights in the UAE.
